Who Are WE
For the past 15 months The Kettle Falls Focus has been providing
a community newspaper free of charge to the Kettle falls Community
and other subscribers.
As a direct result of Horizons meetings, a group of individuals were inspired to start a newspaper in Kettle Falls. they felt there was a need for a newspaper aimed specifically at the community of Kettle Falls, as other papers did not cover Kettle Falls in depth.
Our first issue was published in March 2008.
one year later after a steep learning curve the paper developed a clean layout, increased in size and choice of articles.
Run completely as a non-profit paper, it operates solely on advertising and subscriptions to cover the costs of printing and distribution, and some dedicated individuals and community input.
Our goal is and has been twofold:
to focus on communication within the community so that everyone has the opportunity to know what is happening locally,
to promote local businesses by writing stories about their history and what they have to offer.
We have consistently encouraged the community to shop locally,
and we believe it is of value to connect readers to their community and to provide local businesses/advertisers with a medium to connect with local citizens.
The Kettle Falls Focus also has out-of-state subscribers.
Many of these subscribers travel here for vacation and/or pass on the newspaper to friends and relatives where they live.
One woman stated that she
“feels like she knows Kettle Falls” through the Focus and that that will make her family feel more comfortable when they finally retire here.
